Memory questions and suggestions

I just bought a new CPU AMD|PH II X2 550 AM3 3.1G (Unlock able to a quad core on the right MB). I also have, Dual ASUS ATI Radeon 4870 1 GB (Dark Knight Edition), an ASUS M4A78 Plus (was just going to replace my MB for a PCI Express 16x2 board, but got carried away), and Corsair XMS2 800 2GB (2 x 1 GB) DDR2 SDRAM for memory. Things I know: 1. I need more memory 2. Maybe a better MB (I might OC my CPU, but I don’t think I really care about unlocking all the cores, or should I?). I just got Windows 7 pro, a new 750 GB hard drive to go with my 500 GB, and an OCZ 850 watt SLI ready PSU.
My question at this point is; should I buy the 2 x 2 GB memory for a total of 4 GB, or buy another set of the cheaper 2 x 1 GB and add it to the existing 2 GB of memory for a total of 4 GB? Will I have heat issues, is 4 GB enough, 6 GB for Windows 7 (or overkill), etc. I’ve been buying everything on sale ($450 for all of this); I don’t want this to become a $1000 upgrade. So, please keep that in mind.
I will be using my old MB(ASUS M3A), CPU(AMD X2 5000BE), Video Card(nVidia 8600gt), HD's(WD 320x2 Green) PSU(Coolmax 600watts), 2x1gb ddr 400 memory and HSF in a build for my nieces.
I also heard that the ASUS M4A78 Plus is having Windows 7 issues (I bought it running XP sp3). Outside of that, I heard it’s a great MB and can OC easily. Anyone know anything about this?

U don't need to do anything except add more memory. If you keep that motherboard make sure its DDR2 RAM.
Heat with RAM is rarely an issue if you don't overclock / add more voltage.
Make sure you use 64-bit Win7 if you want to support the full 4 gigs of RAM or more; 32-bit only gives you around 3.4 GB RAM no matter how much you have over that.
4 GB will be fine, 2x2 is generally better than 4x1, but the performance gap is negligible. More memory is probably overkill, and if you need more, just buy more.. not a big deal, and u don't get any savings for buying it all at once anyway.

If you have 32-bit Windows there is no point in buying more memory, with normal Windows config you can have 3GB visible to OS and 2GB for single application. 64-bit is another matter. 2GB sticks are the sweet spot now so get 4*2GB for total of 8GB.

I am looking at Mushkin 2gbx2 Red Frostbyte sticks. They are ddr2 ddr1000 pc2 8000. This is a little faster than ddr2 ddr800 pc2 6400. My MB has been cited as only recognizing one of the ddr1066 pc2 8500. Will these sticks give me problems also. They are going for a great price of $74 at amazon (no shipping, no tax).

Wait, what, the party is starting already?
Why am I always the last one to find out?
